Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.

The team did not mention the player by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Shared on Instagram

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Recent Legal Issues

Rice was absent for the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, he concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
